The music of CLASS V is essentially the music of the contemporary dance class in
performance. It’s not a normal dance class by any stretch of the imagination, but something
quite extraordinary.
As a dance work, CLASS has become a huge challenge for musicians and dancers
alike, exploring the way that music and movement each define space, rhythm and
timing. It all happens at high speed, with the musicians playing like they have
four hands. Events cascade one upon the other for nearly 30 minutes.
In this highly synchronous style of dance and music, the music mirrors the
unpredictable directions that the dance takes, and these capricious changes
make the choreography and music riveting.

For the first time since it’s inception, the remarkable music for Robert Cohan’s contemporary dance work CLASS is nowavailable on CD. This dynamic percussion
music score, composed by Jon Keliehor in 1980, was the fifth (and last) music
version of a collaboration that begun in 1975 to bring the essence of the
London Contemporary Dance technique alive on stage as a theatrical performance.
