Primary and preschool music specialist
Moira Jakobsson introduces the Create Music pack during a
one-day music in-service workshop. These sessions address
the cry: "We have cupboards full of instruments but
don't know what to do with them!" Sessions are for up to
30 people, and allow individuals the use of a wide range of
pitched and unpitched percussion instruments to explore the
ideas of the workshop.
Create Music focuses clearly on the
musical skills of listening, moving, singing, playing and
creating, for use by non-specialist staff in the
pre-school years. The Create Music pack consists of a
range of creative activities, a booklet of guidelines, a set of
information cards, and a CD from Luminous Music titled Create
Music.
Compiled by Moira Jakobsson from a
Glasgow City Council education initiative, the Create Music
pack gives a simple curricular framework and a structure to
follow during a music session and is intended to supplement the
large repertoire of songs already enjoyed.
Included in the music-pack CREATE
MUSIC is a CD which features many of the instruments used
in our workshops. This recording invites children to
explore workshop themes using their own creative ideas in their
own time. The music is evocative and flowing, providing
imaginative atmospheres for movement and creative activities.
