African Hands On Drum b/w.tif

Hands On Drumming at Primary 6 & 7 levels, is a successful and fulfilling workshop. However this workshop seems to work for many age groups and at community level. A one-hour workshop is a dynamic taster for hand drumming, with a high level of excitement. Two hours takes the pupil in a little deeper. Currently we supply enough instruments for about 15 pupils in a session. Using a selection of different drums from Africa, Latin America, Turkey and North Africa, kids get to use their hands to coax out the tonalities from the instruments. It is an instant orchestra of drums yet requires participants to quickly develop special coordination skills so that they can all play together.

A half-day programme with the same children opens the door to creative challenges. Here children can start to work in smaller groups to make their own music. It's a bit noisy!! and a large space is required. Two half-day programmes with the same children can bring a musical development with more subtlety, and even a small performance. A weeklong programme is quite grand.

Primary 5-7, Secondary 1-6, Adult,  1 - 2 hour, and full day sessions
