Pupils are encouraged to explore the sounds of a large array of percussion instruments from many parts of the world. These instruments are hand picked to provide unique tonal colours and stimulating sound qualities. Creative relationships are taken as a starting point. Demonstrations and challenges are offered to enhance an understanding of rhythm, timing and orchestration. Improvisation is used as a catalyst for creative thinking.
Pupils experiment with musical and non-musical sounds. Word-ideas, anecdotes and personal experiences become source materials for their own compositions. Musical explorations lead to mini compositions. Poems, stories, dreams, new musical sounds, everything is recorded on audio tape.
Pupils develop and present their ideas in one minute time capsules. The whole group strives to witness and co-create new music performance standards, according to their own views. Advanced teaching methods are self-evident in this work, and are presented to educators within the participating schools.
